With the growth of the residency program we've witnessed the core faculty blossom into their roles as simulation, procedure, curriculum and ultrasound directors. With our program 'new' does not mean 'inexperienced.' Among our core faculty are current EMS and previous ultrasound fellowship directors, department vice chairs, committee leaders, simulation educators and medical control authority physicians. We are proud to be Metro Detroit's newest emergency medicine residency. Ultrasound, simulation and procedures are integrated into weekly didactics and our curriculum is tailored to each year of training. Large group lectures are replaced with groups of 5 residents and a faculty member. Any off-service needed to manage emergency conditions is well represented and available at all times.īased on feedback from EM residents, we designed our didactics to be engaging for both the residents and faculty by relying on small group learning. The graduate medical education department at Providence hosts more than 200 residents and fellows. Right off I96, our Novi campus is a fast-paced ED with frequent EMS transports from the surrounding community and rural areas. Providence Southfield, where high acuity trauma and medical cases are common, is part of Detroit and Oakland county EMS and near several freeways.
